Library Cards: An individual over 14 receives a card upon registration. A child under the age of 14 is required to obtain the signature of a parent or guardian before a card is issued. Card registration is renewed every two years.
Displays: The library posts a monthly calendar of community events. Submissions from the public are welcome. Posters or flyers advertising local events may be posted on the bulletin board or other available spaces. Materials submitted may not exceed 8 1/2 by 11 inches except by special permission. Only notices of local or regional interest which are not commercial or political will be posted.
FAX Services: Patrons have the opportunity to receive and send fax messages. Outgoing faxes are limited to domestic calls only, and are charged at the rate of $1.00 per page. Faxes may be received anytime, but sent only during library hours. We do request that incoming faxes specify the intended recipient's name and phone number. The fax number is 774-5563.
Copier: The photocopier is
available for use by the public.
Copies cost 10 cents each page/side. Double-sided copies are 20
cents per page.
ILL Services: The library staff
will endeavor to provide for
patrons materials not currently held in the collection. These are
solicited from other cooperating New Hampshire libraries. Physical
materials are delivered by van on Fridays as a part of the New
Hampshire State Library ILL service. Copies of articles or similar
formats are faxed to the Dunbarton Public Library by the New Hampshire
State Library. Despite its best efforts, the library can
not ensure that all requests will be filled in-house. Patrons may be
directed
to local libraries or other facilities to obtain needed resources. The
Dunbarton
Public Library, in turn, provides materials to other libraries as it
fulfills
its role as a cooperating ILL member.
Reserve
Policy: Patrons may
reserve
a book by request. When the requested new book arrives, or the item is
returned
by another patron, the requestor is notifed by phone so that he may
come
in promptly to pick up the item. A book may not be renewed if it is
reserved
by another patron, unless special permission is granted by the library
staff.
Renewal
of Materials:
Patrons may request additional time equal to the original loan period
for most materials borrowed from the library. Renewal requests
may be made by phone, email, or in person. We may not be able to
renew Inter-Library Loan materials or items reserved for another
patron.
Museum Refunds: The library will refund admissions up to $20.00 to any museum or educational center. Refunds may be requested by phone, email, or in person, and receipts delivered to the library by mail, fax, or in person. More information is available at the circulation desk.
Outreach Service: A delivery service is offered to Dunbarton residents who are physically unable to visit the library. An effort will be made to deliver the item(s) in a timely fashion. Usual circulation dates apply. Please call the library (774-3546) or email dunlib@gsinet.net for more details. Large print books are available if needed.
Technology: There are two
computers available for public
use
in addition to the on-line catalog. The children's computer offers
educational games. The reference computer features an Internet
connection, CD-ROM references,
and word processing capabilities. A wireless
internet connection is
available for patrons wishing to use their own computer.
Policies concerning the use of the computers are posted at each
location.

Collection Development : The selection of materials shall be made on the basis of the interest, information and enlightenment of all people in the community. No material shall be excluded because of the race, nationality, sex, political, social or religious views of the author. The library staff adheres to the principles set forth in the ALA Library Bill of Rights, the Freedom To Read and Freedom to View statements.
Special Collections: The library maintains a separate non-circulating collection of material concerned with Dunbarton history. Copies of Dunbarton town reports dating back to the late 1800s are also available for use in the library.
Literacy and Basic Education: A collection of materials for use by students and tutors involved in adult tutorial programs is available. This collection includes handbooks for tutors, as well as basic guides to math, social science, health care, reading and writing. Audio Books: In addition to a permanent collection of audio books, a rotating collection is available from a leasing program. These titles change every three months. Audio books circulate for a period of two weeks (14 days). There is a fine of $1.00 per day on overdue audio books. Patrons may also download audio books from nh.lib.overdrive.com. Downloaded audios are licensed for one week of listening or transferring to a compatible MP3 player. Selected titles may also be burned to CD during the loan period. (See download instructions at http://users.gsinet.net/dunlib/audio.html)
Movies: The library has a permanent collection of movies available in VHS and DVD formats. Movies circulate for one week (7 days) and must be borrowed on an adult card, limit four (4) per family. There is a fine of $1.00 per day on overdue movies.
Volunteers: The Dunbarton Public Library enthusiastically invites all interested parties to come in and volunteer their services. Volunteers are welcomed on a regular basis, or on special occasions, such as during a book sale. The library staff recognizes that members in the community have talents, skills and gifts which can add to the quality of library service. Please feel free to call, email, or come in to ask about volunteer opportunities. Community members can assist at storyhours, shelf-reading, processing or repairing books, computer data entry, or other myriad tasks. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Donations: Gifts to the collection can be in the form of money or actual materials. Gifts of books and other materials are gratefully accepted by the library with the understanding that they will be considered for addition to the collection in accordance with established library policies.
